Even in the winter we’re still green. A mix of intentional cover crop and some happy accidents in the orchard. The radish and green will be available at our next market. Soon we’ll unleash our ducks and let them thin out the slugs and snails this spring!

I didn’t get to know Matt for very long, definitely not long enough know the depth of how good of a person he was. He started his career in the coast guard as a helicopter rescue swimmer and continued on as a green beret. My favorite story about matt is a few years ago, while we were teaching a class, we found a kitten in the middle of the road. Within a few days he had already decided to take it back to Jersey with him. He named him Lafayette and would regularly send me updates about how he was getting on. Matt was incredibly strong and the most level headed caring man. His wife is putting on a fundraiser in his honor, the proceeds will go to the green beret foundation which helps the families of those operators through the hardest times. My brain hurt after reading and seeing everything happening in Gaza over the last few days. Sydney was nice enough to come over and help me extend our bamboo pergola to help keep my mind off it. This will be a really nice veg tunnel for next year.

The quail seeds finally sprouted! Today we’re hatching about 30 Coturnix quail from @meyer_hatchery! They’ll spend a couple weeks in a brooder before we move them out to our aviary. We plan on using them for meat and egg production! #regenerativeagriculture #urbanagriculture #veteran #freetownportrico
